Hajat Sawiyyah Nakanene is a seasoned social development professional and humanitarian leader serving as the Director of Programs and Elderly Affairs at Esuga Elderly Support Uganda (ESUGA). She provides strategic leadership in the design, implementation, and oversight of programs focused on improving the quality of life, dignity, and protection of elderly persons.

Hajat Sawiyyah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration (BSWASA) from Islamic University in Uganda and a Certificate in Counseling and HIV/AIDS Control, equipping her with strong expertise in community development, psychosocial support, and social protection systems.  With over 15 years of professional experience, Hajat Sawiyyah has worked extensively at both national and international levels, serving communities in Uganda as well as in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

At ESUGA, she leads program strategy, implementation, monitoring, and partnerships, ensuring that the organization delivers impactful initiatives that address the social, emotional, health, and economic challenges faced by elderly individuals. She works closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, and community leaders to expand access to services and strengthen protection systems for older persons.

Her leadership continues to strengthen ESUGA’s program impact and contributes to advancing sustainable, community-driven solutions that ensure elderly citizens live with dignity and care. Her professionalism, field experience, and dedication position her as a key leader in the movement to improve the welfare and rights of elderly communities in Uganda and beyond.
