Advocacy and Protection of Elderly Rights

Elderly persons often face neglect, discrimination, abuse, and social exclusion, particularly in communities where awareness of their rights is limited. ESUGA’s Advocacy and Protection of Elderly Rights programme works to promote respect, inclusion, and legal protection for senior citizens at both community and institutional levels.

Through community sensitization campaigns, dialogue meetings, and public awareness initiatives, ESUGA educates families, local leaders, and community members on the rights and dignity of elderly persons. These engagements help address harmful practices, reduce stigma, and strengthen community responsibility toward elderly care and protection.

The programme also supports elderly individuals in accessing appropriate legal guidance and community mediation where rights violations occur. By working collaboratively with local authorities, civil society organizations, and policy stakeholders, ESUGA advocates for strengthened systems that safeguard elderly welfare and promote age-inclusive policies.

Through sustained advocacy and community engagement, ESUGA contributes to building a society where elderly persons are protected, valued, and empowered to live with dignity and security.
