Many elderly persons face economic vulnerability due to limited income sources, reduced physical capacity, or lack of social support. ESUGA’s Livelihood and Economic Empowerment programme seeks to strengthen financial stability and promote independence among elderly individuals, particularly those living in poverty or caring for dependents.
The programme supports small-scale income-generating activities suited to the abilities and interests of elderly persons. These may include backyard gardening, small livestock rearing, craft-making, and other manageable livelihood initiatives. By enhancing access to practical skills and community support networks, ESUGA enables elderly persons to maintain dignity and contribute meaningfully to their households.
In addition, ESUGA promotes financial literacy and basic resource management to help beneficiaries better manage limited income and household needs. The programme also encourages intergenerational collaboration, where families and community members work together to support sustainable livelihood activities.
Through this approach, ESUGA fosters resilience, reduces economic dependency, and strengthens the social and financial wellbeing of elderly persons within their communities.
