ESUGA Collaborates with Rotary Club in Environmental Conservation Initiative

ESUGA Elderly Support Uganda teamed up with Rotary Club Jinja in an environmental conversation initiative aimed at protecting the endangered Lake Victoria. This magnificent drive themed as “Protect Lake Victoria” was realized through the Run for the Nile 2026, which was a national community event organized by the Rotary Club of Uganda, held in Jinja City.

The Deputy Executive Director of ESUGA Elderly Support Uganda Mr. Abubakar Shemaran Mayanja said that participation in the “Protect Lake Victoria” campaigns, it is ESUGA’s a continued dedication to community engagement, social responsibility, and environmental advocacy which is a core initiative for ESUGA. “By joining this national initiative, the ESUGA demonstrated its commitment to causes that extend beyond elderly support, actively contributing to efforts that safeguard Uganda’s natural heritage for future generations”. Mayanja stressed

The Rotarian and chief organizer for the Run for the Nile 2026 Mr. Ntembe Yasin echoed the timeliness of this environmental conservation drive aimed at protecting the East Africa’s largest Lake Victoria. “Of recent, we have experienced many environmental challenges. Such as global warming, climate change among other. We believe that Lake Victoria is endangered. It is high time for us to wake up and protect it through collective initiatives like this one” Ntembe emphasized.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including community members, organizations, and development partners from across Uganda. All participants were united by a shared commitment to environmental conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. The run aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect Lake Victoria, a critical resource that supports livelihoods, biodiversity, and regional ecosystems. The event was successfully coordinated by the Rotary Club of Uganda, offering a strong platform for advocacy, collaboration, and public awareness.

ESUGA Elderly Support Uganda remains committed to engaging in initiatives that promote environmental protection, unity, and sustainable community development in Uganda.
