ESUGA Elderly Support Uganda has taken another important step in its mission to reduce poverty among older persons by distributing hybrid goats to elderly beneficiaries under its Economic Empowerment Programme. The handover ceremony took place at the ESUGA Head Office, Jinja City, Uganda, and brought together beneficiaries, community leaders, ESUGA staff, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate a programme that is changing lives through practical, sustainable economic opportunities.
Among the beneficiaries were Mrs. Nakato Madina and Mr. Mangole Ismael, among others, each of whom received a hybrid goat to help build a reliable source of income and improve household livelihoods. The goats are expected to support breeding, milk production, and livestock farming, enabling beneficiaries to earn additional income, improve household nutrition, and strengthen financial resilience.
For many elderly persons in Uganda, poverty remains one of the greatest challenges affecting dignity, health, and quality of life. Limited employment opportunities and declining physical strength often leave elderly people without dependable sources of income. Through the Economic Empowerment Programme, ESUGA offers a practical and sustainable solutions that help elderly persons to become more self-reliant. Rather than providing temporary relief, the programme invests in productive assets that continue to create value for years, helping beneficiaries improve their livelihoods while strengthening food security and household resilience.
At the handover ceremony, the Deputy Executive Director of ESUGA Mr. Mayanja Abubakar, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to empowering older persons through sustainable development initiatives. “Every elderly person deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, independence, and hope. By providing hybrid goats, we are not simply donating livestock—we are investing in sustainable livelihoods that will continue to benefit families for years to come. Our Economic Empowerment Programme reflects ESUGA’s commitment to reducing poverty, restoring dignity, and improving the quality of life of older persons across Uganda.” Mayanja stressed.
ESUGA remains committed to implementing programmes that empower older persons through sustainable agriculture, financial inclusion, health, nutrition, social protection, and community development. The organization believes that economic empowerment is one of the most effective ways to help elderly people regain confidence, improve their well-being, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
